So now a 12 month membership will cost $59.99 instead of $49.99 in the US. Although other regions seem less badly affected as the price chanes seem to relate to just one month subscriptions.

Confirming earlier reports (see blu-ray.com, April 17), George Lucas himself announced today that the Star Wars films will be released on Blu-ray in 2011, in a six-movie box set. Speaking at the Celebration V convention in Orlando, Lucas said: "I wish I could say it was coming out this year, but it will come out next year." New, extensive special features will be featured, including documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives.

One of those special features, a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi, premiered at the convention. In it, Luke Skywalker is seen asembling his new lightsaber before going to the palace of Jabba the Hutt.

"Blu-ray is the absolute best way to experience Star Wars at home – in pristine high definition," said George Lucas. "The films have never looked or sounded better."

In an interview with the New York Times, Lucas said that the saga hadn't been announced before because he was waiting for mass adoption of the Blu-ray format. "We've been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it," said the filmmaker.

Lucas also clarified that the original trilogy movies will be included as they were shown theatrically in 1997 and released on DVD in 2004 - i.e., the original versions will not be included. "You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally," he said. "It's a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version."

Channel 4's on demand service being tooled for PSN and iPad.

Following the success of BBC's iPlayer on PlayStation, Channel 4 could be the first commercial TV station to come to the PS3 according to an interview in Broadcast magazine.

TechRadar is reporting that Channel 4 is currently looking to take their on demand digital service to other platforms following its success on Virgin Media's on demand service and YouTube, with an iPad app also in development.

Talks between Sony and the British TV channel are at early stages, but Channel 4 seems confident of a deal being made with an insider quoted as saying - "4oD is becoming a platform agnostic product and will be successful because of the quality of the content."

With a rich back catalogue including The Inbetweeners, The Ali G Show, and Fonejacker, the addition of 4oD to the XMB will surely be celebrated as another win for PS3 owners everywhere.]]> http://www.ign.com

It currently warns that users need to "sign-in and have the right permission to view the rest of the site." There is a field to enter a PlayStation Network login, but so far we haven't been able to gain access. It looks like the first confirmation that Killzone 3 will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors and have a beta program before launch.

As a reminder, Herman Hulst of Guerrilla Games will be delivering the Keynote Address at GDC Europe next week. IGN will be there to cover all of the Game Developers Conference and the massive GamesCom conference in Cologne which runs from August 18-22.

Ubisoft may be following Sony's lead by releasing more HD remake collections for PlayStation 3.

Online retailer Amazon France (via Joystiq) recently posted two new listings for Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia trilogy collections, set for release this November. No word yet on what titles could be part of these Blu-ray packs.
